About Us

Hi!  I’m Krista, and among other things, am a redhead with fair skin and a family history of skin cancer.  So, it was no surprise that at the age of 18 I was diagnosed with my first basal cell carcinoma.  While this was a shock since I was so young, it was easily treated and removed.  Fast-forward 23 years to 2020 and I’m 41, with two redhead children of my own.  I’ve had years and years of basal cell, squamous cell and pre-cancerous spots “zapped” and treated with different creams.

But in July 2020, I had two skin cancer spots that needed more invasive removals.  The top of my left ear had to be carefully shaved down until the cancer was gone, and at a separate surgery a week later a two-inch incision was made on my left shoulder to remove that spot.  These surgeries were different than any of the other skin cancer treatment I had experienced, and while I had been careful with my sun exposure, I knew I could do better.  And even more important, I wanted to try and keep my daughter and son from the same future.

It was this concern from which Noontide Sunwear was born. Finding swimwear that offered full coverage has become more accessible, but even in the three years it's taken Noontide to go from concept to product, there aren't a lot of options that provide full coverage, UPF clothing for kids.
